YOUR article last week on the large tree behind Gloucester's Greyfriars project just doesn't add up (Citizen, February 11).
The story is about the Dawn Redwood tree that is growing in the grounds of the former GlosCat site.
brochure printingThis type of tree can grow to between 30m and 40m in its natural habitat in China The developer is claiming that "they can't work with a tree of that size" and are prepared to replace it with a smaller tree elsewhere.
Surely they were fully aware of the tree before they started negotiations? I believe that a tree of that size and nature must be subject to a tree preservation order from the council.
Compare this with your article last month, where a man was fined many thousands of wholesale colthing pounds plus expenses for cutting back a tree for his father.
replica rolexThis was because the tree had a preservation order on it.
He wasn't offered the alternative of planting a smaller tree elsewhere.
a Both trees are covered by the same authority and yet different solutions or penalties are arrived at.
